What is Acupuncture and How Can It Help Me?
Acupuncture is a form of therapy and health maintenance first developed by the Chinese about 5000 years ago. Special points on the skin are stimulated, with needles or more commonly today electronically, in order to affect an energy balance in the body. These points are located on bioelectric channels of energy that the Chinese called meridians. The energy circulates through all the organs and parts of the body along 14 main channels. Twelve are bilateral (having a branch on each side of the body), and two are central: one in front and one in back. The two central channels are coordinators of the twelve bilateral channels.
Energy may be blocked along any of the pathways resulting in a condition of excess in some channels and a deficiency in others. Such imbalances, when sustained over time, can cause some 2000 different health problems. These imbalances are normalized by stimulating the appropriate point, bringing an area of high energy or low energy back to its normal state.
Acupuncture can help treat health conditions such as, headaches, arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, allergies, dizziness, ringing in the ears, painful conditions such as neck pain, sciatica or joint pain and many others. There are no ill side affects and over 5000 years of healing can’t be wrong.
